A Canadian jury on Sunday found the Shafia family guilty of murdering their three teenage daughters and the father’s co-wife back in 2009. Mohammad Shafia and his second wife, Tooba, murdered their three teenage daughters, aged 19, 17, and 13-years old and Mohammad Shafia’s first wife, Rona Mohammed, 52 years old. Assisting them in this grisly family affair was their son, 21-year old, Hamed. During the trial, the prosecution submitted evidence to show that the girls were murdered because they ‘dishonored’ their father by defying his dictates with regard to dating, socializing, and using the internet. Shafia’s first wife, who was childless, was chosen for death because the polygamous relationship, if exposed, could have resulted in the family’s deportation. Shafia was a wealthy businessman who hailed from Afghanistan.
The months leading up to the deaths were not happy ones in the Shafia household, according to evidence presented at trial. Zainab, the oldest daughter, was forbidden to attend school for a year because she had a young Pakistani-Canadian boyfriend, and she fled to a shelter, terrified of her father, the court was told.
The prosecution presented wire taps and cell phone records from the Shafia family in court. In one phone conversation, the father says his daughters “betrayed us immensely.”
The wiretaps, which capture Shafia spewing vitriol about his dead daughters, calling them treacherous and whores and invoking the devil to defecate on their graves, were a focal point of the trial. Fox News
The four victims were rendered unconscious, their bodies stuffed into a car and the car was then pushed into a local lock where they drowned.
And while claiming his innocence throughout the trial, Daddy Mohammed’s actual comments concerning the death of his daughters included such loving sentiments as the following:
- God curse their generation, they were filthy and rotten children.
- To hell with them and their boyfriends, may the devil shit on their grave.
- Even if they come back to life a hundred times, if I have a cleaver in my hand, I will cut (them) in pieces.
Since 2002, there have been 13 honor killing episodes in Canada. But hey, not to worry. After all, what’s a few dead broads when there’s a glorious multicultural mission underway to stamp out that evil Christian European culture?
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
