It is now 7:30 PM on Saturday and the citizens of the Philadelphia metropolitan area are awaiting the howling winds and torrential rains of Hurricane Irene. There is also a tornado warning for Kent and Sussex counties down in the state of Delaware adding to the already tight tensions of this wild weekend evening. And with all the super hyper media coverage playing non-stop over the local airwaves, it surely seems that Armageddon is heading our way.
For now, there is only a light drizzle here in the suburbs of Philadelphia with no gusting winds at all. The brunt of the storm is supposed to hit sometime between 8 PM and 3 AM Sunday morning so it should be a bit of a nerve-racking night.
Nothing like a hurricane to sharpen one’s sense of nature and note every tree within a 100-yard radius of one’s humble home. Well, here’s hoping I still have electricity tomorrow morning and that my house will be all in one piece when I awake.
I wish all the best to everyone along the Eastern seaboard who are bracing for a long night’s tussle with Madame Irene. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the only big blowhard that hits us this weekend turns out to be the madcap media.
