For a great analysis of what the social welfare state has in store for us here in the USA, read Mark Steyn’s article in the Washington Times. A cut to the chase, in your face primer on the hard realities of the hand-out happy entitlement mentality:
What’s happening in the developed world today isn’t so very hard to understand: The 20th century Bismarckian welfare state has run out of people to stick it to. In America, the feckless insatiable boobs in Washington, Sacramento, Albany and elsewhere are screwing over our kids and grandkids. In Europe, they’ve reached the next stage in social democratic evolution: There are no kids or grand kids to screw over…So you can’t borrow against the future because, in the most basic sense, you don’t have one. Greeks in the public sector retire at 58, which sounds great. But, when 10 grandparents have four grandchildren, who pays for you to spend the last third of your adult life loafing around?
As always, Mark Steyn is in top form. And to get a great overview of the labor unrest going on in Europe, check out the article in Pajamas Media by Soeren Kern. Mr. Kern etches out the Take Care Of Me Mindset at the core of the great socialistic welfare state. It boggles the mind just how spoiled and pampered these Euro cry babies have gotten to be:
In France, an air traffic controllers strike grounded hundreds of flights in Paris, one of the busiest air travel hubs in Europe. French unions are protesting the planned consolidation of air traffic control networks in Europe. The planned merger could see French air traffic controllers, who are currently among the best paid in Europe, lose their generous perks, which include 30 weeks of vacation per year. (French air traffic controllers are required to work only 100 days a year.)
Working just a 100 days a year?! Getting 30 weeks of paid vacation?! The Entitlement Mentality run amok! And these are the people us backward Americans are supposed to model? These are the economic and socialistic systems we’re supposed to emulate? Well, all I can say is what I quipped in a previous post:
Keep your rehashed, Old World Marxist Manure for all those Euro Eunuchs needing their Nanny Nappies to get them through the day. Us grown-ups here in the USA like being potty trained–it’s so much more pleasant and productive going through life without dragging around a governmental load in our pants.
And that’s the truth.
