James Rennie, Chief Executive for the LGBT Youth in Scotland and adviser to the Scottish government on issues of homosexuality and children, has been convicted of being one of the leaders of a pedophilia ring.
Rennie also molested the children of his friends and even videotaped himself molesting an infant. He has been sentenced to life in prison, which in Scotland seems to work out to just 13 years. Unbelievable!
Many in the gay community don’t like spotlighting stories involving the molestation of children by one of their own, believing that doing so only gives more ammunition to the anti-gay/lesbian forces. But it’s the perceived sidestepping and ambiguity on this issue by the gay community that provides powerful ammo to the anti-gay block and the voters it influences.
The LGBT community’s checkered past in its dealings with NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association) is another poisoned thorn in our side. The waffling, and in some cases, the outright support of NAMBLA by some LGBT groups and leaders from the late 1970s through the 1990s is a shameful aspect of our history. Anti-gay opponents see the community’s wholesale condemnation of NAMBLA as nothing more than a recent strategic ploy, having more to do with political expediency than moral outrage.
In this era of instant electronic exposure, it is pointless to sweep our community’s dirt under the carpet. And when it comes to protecting children from sexual predators, be they gay, straight, or whatever, there is no middle ground, there is no compromise. The days of wink-wink, nudge-nudge, and look the other way are over.
